i have an XS thats engine currently has black paint on it from the previous owner. I don't know what color was used (i think its flat black) or the brand

I have gone through the 9 pages in the "paint" section of the forum and everyone seems to be painting their engines with black/gloss black high temp paints.

My questions are...

What would be my best bet in getting it off so i can start brand new?

what should i use for primer? and what paint would you all recommend for a flat black look.

Has anyone done an engine in full wrinkle black? pics?

Thank you in advance for all your help and suggestions!

Look at Cerakote as a possibility. It's typically used to coat firearms, but I've done an engine with it. It outperforms powder coating and it will dissipate heat. They have testing data on their website simulating full auto weapon @ 950 degrees and if I remember correctly the coating never got over 250. Just make sure you use a certified applicator. Tons of color options too.
