I never knew about these but now I have to get one to try out on a front axle I have that is kind of messed up. Would just one cover most of the ranges of metric threads or are there a bunch of different sizes I would need to get and does anyone have a recommendation on a brand?

I was looking at these:

from Nicholson whose products are generally quite good. They have manufactured all types of files for a long time. Lower down the page it shows what threads each file can "fit" including imperial and metric threads. Don't know if you can just buy one? I was looking at some individual files recently in a store but they were a "no name" brand likely from China and when it comes to tools, especially something this specific I prefer a brand name.

No need to spend big bucks here. I just bought this one off eBay. One is pretty much all you need, it fits 8 thread pitches .....

I've had one of these for years, as I mentioned, but it's a cheapo HF one. Still works great though. Thought I'd "upgrade", lol. You'll be amazed how well these things work. So far on the 650, I've fixed axles, valve cover studs, and exhaust studs. There will be more to come I'm sure.

I used one on a 71 camshaft. Saved my but. Someone on the forum told me to use one. There hard to find . Bought mine in a set from Sears. Good post Gggary. How's your 73 build going ?
