Just picked up a 1980 xs 650 for a $100. Engine turns over but noticed the left exhaust valve (as sitting) is stuck open, other three are ok. Question is whats the best way to possibly free it up without taking engine apart. I do realize it would be better to disassemble and check everything out especially since there was no speedometer but thought lets see how it runs as is. Thanks in advance for any and all feedback. Thanks

Spray rust buster between the valve spring coils through the valve cover and on the stem through the exhaust port. You can also tap the rocker/valve from above with a stick and hammer. They usually free up pretty quick, keep dousing with rust buster to flush rust out, then pump in motor oil before attempting a startup. Expect it to need a new valve seal and it will not be at "as new" valve/guide clearance anymore.
Just did a stuck valve from sitting to runner XS650, in about an hour. :cautious:
