Ok. Just bought my '83 XS in-a-basket and am getting ready to start my street tracker project. I figure seat and tank are the right place to start. I keep hearing these horror stories about ethanol eating fiberglass resin.
  • Is there an alternative to fiberglass out there?
  • Are there glass tanks that are resistant to the stuff?
  • What if I use ethanol stabilizer from the local auto parts store? Will that help?
I live in Pennsylvania where non-ethanol gas is scarce, and I'm looking for a Champion style tank.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi Mark. Omar`s Fiberglass has a coated tank available. I just ordered one a couple weeks ago but didn`t get the coating because non alcohol gas is easily available here in Ks. check out their site and read the info.

I guess it depends on how deep your pockets are. A tank made from aluminimum won't suffer any issues but will cost more and may also incur the cost of painting.

There are products that claim to be ethanol proof. As an example this is available in the UK and I would assume that something similar is available in the States?
