Hi all from Chicago! I have been dreaming of motorcycles sence I was a child. Now into my 1/3rd life crisis I finally pulled the trigger on an XS650 bobber project. I have been stalking this forum and google for weeks planning the build and doing some ordering.

NEEDS,
rewired, the electrical syslem is a mess,
cover the seatpan (Not sure what I am going to do with this.)
rear fender
PMA
Change Handlebars (anyone want to trade for some Z, Frisco, or Bonz bars)
Change exhaust (want a more agressive style(like the joe-wiseguy stuff))
change tank ( I love how this one sits on the frame but 1.7 gal is not enough I need a 3)
Headlight shrunk
If you see anything above you want to trade feel free to let me know.

So for I have ordered,
Pamco High Output Electronic Ignition Kit
XS650 Billet Aluminum Intake Manifolds
T.C. bros 1.125 CLAMP ON CHAIN TENSIONER 530 SPROCKET
Delt Yamaha XS650 Motor Mount

I will be here with a tone of questions over the next few months I'm sure. I also plan on dong my first paint job as well by spring (plan on making a bass boat jealous):bike:

I'm digging the bike you've got there. Yeah a rear fender is a must in my opinion.
Yeah, the headlight is a little big for the bike.

The exhaust MUST be changed due to the routing of the forward control linkage hitting the kick arm. I need to flip the linkage but it will not work with the current exhaust. The electrical has a drain some where. I rode the bike home then the next day no start. I should get it running again Monday ( if I can figure out the wiring issue). When the PMA goes on I want to ditch the battery and use the box as an electrical box and weld a some old license plates to it so it will have a neat look (hopefully). It goes into the garage next week for the winter then the carnage begins!

gordonscott engineering exhaust ordered
ordered BALLISTIC EVO2 8-CELL LITHIUM BATTERY
Diamond tuck Biltwell seat also on the way

Any other must have for the Xs I might not know about? Does anyone make any deep tunnel 3+ gallon tanks?

I have the same linkage/forward controls(tc bros) and the same exhaust(mikes xs) as you. I have NO probs at all.. Pull that little black muffler thing off and your kick should clear it.

EDIT:
Your rear brake linkage goes all the way back to your brake hub, mine does not. Mine goes on the inside of the pipes and connects to a bracket and another link where the brake light switch is.
Killing that muffler thing could still help with the kicker though...

I found that out when I tried to reverse the linkage when I brought it home and it is the muffler only that hits. I am not a huge fan of the exhaust so I now have gordonscott engineering building me somthing a little more my taste.

Parts are rolling in!
3 gal Mustang Extra Wide *810 tank
Ballistic battery - installed - this thing is tiny!
Delt motor mount
Bates style headlight
Pamco
Torsion springs (have to modify the post for these to work)
Mrs. Clause just ordered the Hughs PMA for christmas
Biltwell diamond tuck solo seat - installed

Now If I can only get it running so I can get it in the garage for the winter.

So far the tear down has been incredibly fast and mostly without any issues. The biggest being with the new tank. The PO mounted the seat hinge craddle right behind the peanut tank and the new one is a little longer (The measurement of the tank online was without the mounting tab:doh:). Thinking of simply cutting the cradle off and moving it back a few inches then welding in a new bung

Also currently on the fence of ditching the forward controls and going with a classic mid. What do you guys/gals think?
