Frame help

I have a 77 xs650D and a previous owner had made the bike into a tracker style by changing tank and seat. They cut off the tank mounting "C-cups" that are welded to the front of the frame. I want to return it to a bigger tank and need suggestions on how to replace those cups, since you cannot just buy them.

Buy 3 or 4 - your second try is going to be a lot better than the first.....
If the PO just ground off the cups instead of drilling the spot welds the addition of your fresh cups may make it really tight to slide on the tank.
The metal on the frost plugs is soft, easy to work.
