Gloss Clear over Matte Clear

If I gently water sand with a 2000 paper a Matte Clear finish and then spray a gloss clear, is the matte will remain under a shiny transparent coat or it's just gonna turn glossy black? Tanks!

while 2000 is like writing paper and wont take the matte finish down,any desent brand of clear will fill in and end up glossy.Spies Hecker the brand of paint I use has a special black that wont need clear,it will be a satin finish and will last.

Thanks guys! After testing it, I ended up just sanding my matte clear with 1500/2000/3000/polish/wax and it's dead on the look I was after!! Like old polished black leather boots!!
