gloves .... I need some suggestions

...the fit is far more important.
I cannot find a glove large enough for my hands and the few that I have been able to get my hands into have had really short fingers which prevents me bending my fingers properly.
My hands are not particularly wide (120mm ) ,or long (8.5" ) but they are quite thick through the palms so the circumference around the palm is 10.75" and finger length 3.75"

Agree on the fit. It fits, or walk away.
Just measured my hand, 120mm wide, 95mm (3.75") finger length.
Same as yours. And similar fitting challenges.
Farm/ranch supply stores out here have a large sampling of gloves, and large handed ranchers. Makes it easier to select.

I just *had* to measure the material thicknesses of a couple of my gloves.

Really like using these. Mechanics gloves.
Thin enuff to manipulate small nuts & bolts.
Gloves01.jpg
About 0.7mm material thickness.

My goatskin ranch gloves.
Soft, supple, form fitting, durable, rugged.
Gloves03.jpg
About 1.4mm material thickness.
Probably too thick for your liking.

My 45+ year old deerskin gauntlets.
Also, soft, supple, form fitting.
Gloves02.jpg
About 1mm material thickness.

My most favorite gloves were acquired long ago at the chainsaw department, almost $50. Very soft and supple, form fitting like a 2nd skin, the sewn seams were undetectable. Dangit, they sprouted legs 15 years ago. Might've been Stihl, or Husqvarna. One color, tiny branding. The modern offerings seem to have all sorts of flashy colorings.

I try to find gloves in XXL, sometimes XL fits...

yes you have a fabulous range of work gear over there in the US and Canada .My partner always gets her Cowboy boots imported from the US All of our small, specialist Companies have long since gone under in the last 20 years due to the recessions and the EU regulations . Recent flooding of our markets with cheap shoddy stuff from the Far East has been the final nail in the coffin for lots of small manufacturers . We are now mostly a Financial service provider Country these days it seems.

All of those gloves would be fine I particularly like the goatskin ranch gloves .....gorgeous !....

I don't agree with the standard recommended glove sizing chart though as it wouldn't work for my hands.
You have large hands and like me you probably have large muscles at the base of your thumbs. The circumference of my hands around the thumb and base of the hand is larger than that measured at the base of the fingers. The result of that is that I can rarely get my hands into gloves further than the first knuckle of my thumbs . !

I have ordered the gloves I posted an image of at the start of the thread which should arrive soon. I'll report back but in the mean time I'm still looking for the perfect glove

I know what you're going through. I've spent considerable time trying various gloves at the various farm/ranch outfits. If I had to rely on e-commerce offerings, I could envision buying dozens before finding what I like.

Worse comes to worse, I could try to find gloves that fit me, share pics, see what you like, and send them to you. Or, maybe somebody else with large hands...

thank you 2M thats a very kind offer... and completely mad ;)...actually I'm also looking for a jacket ..........and a decent pair of urban boots and.........:)

Okay, another approach.

Make up a grid chart, or just use grid paper.
This one is in inches.
HandSize01.jpg

The bold lines are for hand alignment.

Place your hand on the grid chart. Align the edge of the forefinger with the bold vertical line. Align the notch of the wrist, at the base of the thumb, with the bold horizontal line.
HandSize02.jpg

Now, draw an outline of your hand and fingers.
HandSize03.jpg

So, that's my hand. If you could do the same with your hand, then we'll know a bit more about your fitment challenge. Folks with similar hands could then try various gloves at their locations, and post findings. Then you would be better equipped to make online purchasing choices...

2M I have spent half the morning faffing about taking measurements and pictures of my hands lol . My partner is hoovering and cleaning the house and all I'm doing is taking pictures of my hands :laugh2:

thanks for the links I'll peruse later over a coffee

the problem that I have with my hands is that they are exceptionally thick in depth not that they are long or wide although they are that too. They look to be about the same length as yours perhaps a little wider but they are quite a bit thicker through the palms

Glove fit is all about the circumference of ones hand at the widest point which for most ordinary folk is around the base of the hand and thumb not around the bottom of the fingers . the width or length of hands is not going to give a clear indication of the size of a hand or a comfortable glove fit for some folk that have heavily muscled hands .My problem is not how well a glove fits but not being able to get my hands into a glove .

My largest hand (right) measures 11.5 inches in the Winter but swells to over 12 inches in the Summer months or when I get very hot . I cannot find any gloves other than stretch material that will fit that here in the UK except a few unsuitable workmen type gloves .

Peanut, yes, I see it now. Your hand is definitely wider and thicker than mine, about the same in length.

I dug out a bunch of my packed-away gloves, retried them.

XL - some fit ok, some still too tight and too short.
XXL - these fit much better.
XXXL - these fit a bit loose, but are very comfortable.

Been studying more hand sizing charts. The Olympia site talks about American sizing being a bit larger than UK/Europe sizing. I feel pretty confident that XXXL would suit you. A couple of those sites allow you to filter the offerings by size, and there's quite a few in XXXL...

2m thats surprising about US sizing being larger than UK .. Shoe sizes are quite a bit larger in the UK than the US

thank you for unpacking and trying out all your old gloves .
I usually ignore L ,XL,XXl type sizing with most clothing items as it so non standard these days as to be virtually meaningless. In the UK we are getting flooded with cheap Far eastern manufactured clothing imports and the sizing ranges are incredibly small. We must seem like Giants to them here in the West

When looking for a jacket for example I generally look for an XL-XXL ( I have a 48 inch chest), but I always ask for an armpit to armpit measurement before buying as XL sizes can vary between 42 inches and 54 inches depending on manufacturer and where in the World its made.

What is the largest circumference of your hand ? that will give me a better idea of what will fit and what would not.
Thin leather like deerskin should give a little over time and eventually mold to the hand . I'm looking forward to finding a nice pair some day.

Ok, I took a measurement per this chart.
GloveSizes02.jpg

I'm getting a tad over 10", about 26cm.
Which would be XL - XXL on that chart.

There's so many "glove size charts" out there, it's maddening.

My goatskin gloves seem to give the greatest amount of stretch...

I think you're onto something with the circumference. Folded flat, the glove should be close to circumference / 2. My 10" circumference would call for a 5" width.

Some deerskin drivers I found in Colorado, size XL.
Gloves04.jpg
A little over 4.5" wide.
They stretch fit, but too tight, and fingers too short.
Really needs to be XXL.

My old Olympia insulated winter gauntlets, size XL.
Gloves05.jpg
About 5" wide.
The insulation makes them a bit snug, almost too snug.
I'd rather they were in XXL.

My ancient deerskin gauntlets, size XL.
Gloves06.jpg
Almost 5" wide.
1mm skin, no insulation, a good fit.
This size XL is perfect for me.

My new CE Schmidt insulated ranch gloves, size XXXL.
Gloves07.jpg
6" wide.
A loose, comfortable fit.
The looseness keeps my hands warmer.

I have another pair of these in XXL, just a bit less loose.

With your hand circumference of 11.5" - 12", that would call for a flat width measurement of at least 5.7", which would probably be larger than XXL, definitely into XXXL territory...

yes that sounds about right but I have to say the XXXL gloves do look a bit on the generous side .
The deerskin drivers look like the sort of light summer weight gloves I'm looking for but the finger length looks a tad short for me. my preference for the perfect glove has full length fingers which allows for a good range of finger movement . I find most gloves about 1" short and consequently its hard work bending fingers ........like wearing mittens.

I bought a couple of pairs of winter insulated motorcycle gauntlets when I started riding again back in 2004 Like so many uninformed spur-of-the-moment purchases they ended up in the drawer ever since . They were too thick and cumbersome for summer use and as I never ride in rain or cold weather over winter , they were about as useful as a chocolate teapot.:)

Hi peanut,
I got a new thought about your search when you posted the hand photos.
Try to find an S&M site and look for strangler's gloves?

Some glove suppliers that I like.

Olympia motorcycle gloves.
https://olympiagloves.com

Tractor Supply's gloves, including the CE Schmidt brand.
https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/search/Gloves

Carhartt gloves.
https://www.carhartt.com/category/carhartt-accessories-gloves

Sealskinz in the UK, a shop just a few miles from you.
https://www.sealskinz.com/gloves
GREAT Selection range! Olympia stuff is all top-notch stuff but not cheap. I am going to tractor supply tomorrow and try some on. I expect from what was on the net link to find some pretty good ones for the price too...............

Speaking of Tractor Supply, I had to stop in there for supplies, and checked-out the glove section.

In the middle of the display is some CE Schmidt gloves. Biggest they have is in XXL, with quite long fingers. Unfortunately, the width barely makes it to 4.5". A bit snug on me. It seems that this brand is running undersize.
TSC-Gloves01.jpg

Now, we'll look at the largest animal hide gloves that this store stocks, at the far right of the display. From bottom to top, prices range from $10 to $25. All of these gloves have finger lengths of at least 3.5".

West Chester brand, in suede, $10, XL
These don't stretch, feel quite loose on me, 5" width.
TSC-Gloves02.jpg

West Chester brand, in cowhide, $13, XXL.
These will stretch, feel quite loose on me, 5" width.
TSC-Gloves03.jpg

West Chester brand, in deerskin, $20, XXL.
These will stretch, feel quite loose on me, 5" width.
TSC-Gloves04.jpg

I have the same thing in goatskin XXL.
Gloves08.jpg

Both are quite supple, 3.75" fingers. But, this XXL is too loose on me. I have the same goatskin gloves in XL that fit me perfectly. So, I don't wear this XXL anymore.

At the top/right of the display is the Carhartt monster, in XL, $25.
Very loose fit on me, it is 5.5" wide.
TSC-Gloves05.jpg

This thing may also be available in even larger sizes.

So, it appears that the CE Schmidt gloves run a bit undersize, and the Carhartt runs a bit oversize...

A couple of searches on "Deerskin Gloves XXXL" found these sites.

https://www.jpcycles.com/motorcycle-gloves/xxxl

This place has XXXL, *and* XXXXL.
https://www.leatherglovesonline.com/np/MensGloves-ByStyle-Large-Sizes-XXXXL.htm#section=start

Even eBay has some XXXL gloves.
This vendor's last pic has a more reasonable sizing chart.

This vendor has some Texas made deerskins, XXXL, but he notes that they're only 4.75" wide. That would be undersized. Not sure if I could recommend these.

That same Texas vendor has these goatskins in XXXL, width = 5.25".

by crikey 2M thats a lot of work on gloves :yikes:

you must be on commission lol:D

You certainly have an amazing selection of work gloves in that store.....incredible !

The carhartt gloves are certainly wide enough but the finger length looks a little short to me ...maybe 3.5 " ?
I like the deerskin gloves although they may be a little inflexible for motorcycle use ?
The schmit heavy duty look very interesting as they are the only work glove I've seen in black , I like the palm reinforcement too. presumably they are suede ? its difficult to make out .

I also like the suede gloves a lot they are probably the most flexible I would image.

I do have some suede gloves which are really difficult to get on and off but are nice and supple and warm.
the problem as always is that even though they are the largest size they produce the fingers are only 3.5" long . Consequently the gloves always feel like they are cramping my finger tips just like wearing a pair of tight shoes cramp you toes.

I think the answer is going to be with a pair of suede gloves preferably dark in colour and an xxl size if such a beast exists
Thanks for all the time you've spent checking out gloves for me  I'm surprised you didn't get arrested in the store :laugh2:
