So I started a build today on a new frame that I just purchased and the headtube is 3/4" longer than on my old frame which is an 81', which leaves we with a tripple tree that is too short :/
My question is, does anyone know what year of frame has a headtube that is 7 1/2" long? I'm assuming it is in the 73-80" range but not sure because I don't know what year the new frame is and I don't want to buy a new lower tree and stem and have it be too short again haha.
Thanks, Day

the short stem bikes are 70-73, all the necks on 74-83 are longer. Is your frame custom? maybe you can trim the neck on the new frame to fit the 81 stem?

Hmmm, well maybe I was told the wrong year for the old frame or it may be modified to be shorter. I just noticed that the top tree is not off an xs650, the risers are part of the tree rather than being separate pieces, also the bottom tree has different headlight mounts, which makes me wonder if the headtube was modified to fit a tree and stem from a different bike
