How did they make the letters?

I'm painting my engine for my build and had found the Yamaha on the side cover had some chips in the black...paint? Its not paint, its thick and seems like plastic or a resin material. What is that made of, and if I got it all out could I get it in white?

thick paint? maybe its been repainted at some point.

Well, its probably not paint, its got to be a 16th inch thick. It may be rubber, it smelled as I was grinding some if it out. ????

I might try paint remover, it could be powder coat?

Enamel baked on would be my guess... likely applied with a dropper. That fits the time period...
