There's been some threads here about bike weights, thought I'd weigh my two XS1B's.

There's about a 2" drop from my barn floor to the carport. A bathroom scale placed near that step, plus another 2x6 alongside that should make a nice roll-on weighing method. Not shown, a 4x8 piece of 1/8" steel plate placed atop the scale to ensure good weight spread, and protect the scale.

1 - Rolled the front wheel of the stock XS1B onto the scale, shows 200 pounds.

2 - Rolled the rear wheel of the stock XS1B onto the scale, shows 240 pounds.

That's a total of 440 pounds. But, that's fully wet. If we subtract:

24 lbs - 3.3 gal fuel + 3 qts oil, at 6 lbs per gallon
05 lbs - My seat-mounted carry bag, it's contents and my extended toolkit

That leaves 411 pounds, close to the factory spec of 409 pounds.

1 - Rolled the front wheel of the incomplete custom XS1B onto the scale, shows 70 pounds.

2 - Rolled the rear wheel of the incomplete custom XS1B onto the scale, shows 100 pounds.

That's a total of 170 pounds. But, that's without engine, electrics, exhaust, footpegs.

If I guesstimate 200 lbs for what's missing, that puts it around 370 pounds.

When I weighed it back in the '70s, it weighed 375 pounds. I was not going for any weight reduction, just a trim old-school custom, so it has a heavy frame and a lot of unnecessary extra iron and such. I'll bet many of the trackers, choppers, bobbers, chobbers, brats, brobbers, etc. on here can beat that.

So, how much does yours weigh?

My bike is approximately 175kg (~385lbs) dry. De-tabbed frame, small battery, no start motor, no center stand, no stock fenders/mudguards, cast wheels, custom pipes, 520 chain, aluminum sprocket, ex500 carbs etc. Could lose couple of kg's with lighter mufflers and by fitting new brakes and rotors but after that it'll be rather hard/expensive to make it any lighter.

Mine might be a bit larger TwoMany, but parts on hand and all
I was also able to use a digital scale and some ballast to "calibrate" the bath scale (FYI the digital one can only handle about 150lbs)
With a special tank (2.9 gal(I think)), & a motor originally equipped with an elect starter (2.5q give or take), I'd say 20~lbs for me. 380 - 20 = 360lbs!! That works for me!!!:bike:

Same test using a piece of 1\16" plate. And yes the right side is above the plank by almost half an inch. Conclusion: with a piece of plate weighing 1.85 lbs, the difference is negligible, but alas this is an OLD bathroom scale. Untill it comes down to a competition/research debacle with accurate instrumentation.... this'll do! :)

jayel, what're your #'s?

I did mine today no fuel ,PMA other then that complete and full of oil 170 at front 180 at back happy happy thank you for the motivation

NONclow, if I'm reading your scale right, I'm seeing a total of 370. Minus that 20 gives 350!
Is that right?

My first bike was a brand-new 1970 Honda CB-350. Very similar appearance to the XS1, just smaller.
I recall its weight was 350 lbs. Would run 14's in the quarter.

Your XS would be one of those on steroids!

Edit: 80brat, you're also at 350? Fantastic!

I'm not overly surprised to hear results like that. On a heavy diet you could probably get a XS under 300lbs.

How much do you figure Hughes handbuilt "slight hell" weighs? that bike seems very trim.

Wonder how much this one weighs...

Just read an article about him. He still has the bike, complete with the broken side cover where he punched through his aged landing ramp on his last jump.
