Info on This Bike

Love the looks of this bike. Found it in an album on the site, but it doesn't look like the owner has posted yet. The bike has mags, but a straight seat. So is it a special or standard. Can a flat seat be installed on a special? Or is it a standard with mags?

This will help me in my decision of what bike to buy.

It is either a 78 or 79 Special. The old style tank badges to fit a Special tank can be purchased from mikesxs. The seat on this bike has been modified, but it is a Special seat. The 78 and 79 Specials, and the 1980 Special II had a much flatter seat than later models. If you want to "standardize" a Special, it would be easier with the earlier models.

It has a rear disc brake, the bottom edge of the seat pan is nearly flat, and it has a tailight mounted to the fender instead of the grab rail, indicating that it is a "first generation" Special.

78 or 79 for sure. The foot rests give it away. Rear disc on rear mag also.
