Dang it!

One of the advantages to "crap" paint is hat it can protect the castings ....
That's its first duty.
While it's nice to have a freshly painted bit of kit, I don't see myself repainting my Boxford, as the paint, while not one I would have chosen, is in fine condition.
If I were to totally strip and re-con it, I would probably do more of a paint job, but meh.

The original South Bend lathe finish was a version of this.
A good approximation is roofing tar, a rasp, and mineral spirits.
This goo applied to a bare , thirsty casting is a great rust preventative.
Just don't do it in the house.

In essence, strip it , warm it up to drive the moisture out and apply in however many coats you need to make it black.

Looking back , I can think of easier ways :-/

Good thing is most of the original paint is still there and stuck pretty good, just scrapped off all the yellow nasties. Good scrubbing and a coat of primer and should be golden

Does anyone know what the gas line in a MIG torch is made from and also its ID and OD.

Thank you.
That depends on the specific unit and if the liner contains the gas or the gas is in a separate line.
Make and model # please and we'll go from there.
So how do we get from "Is it my turn " to MIG liners ?
No matter , answer in a reasonable fashion and the oracles of the forum will unite in a palatable answer...

Simple answer - I entered it here by mistake.
I had been in a welding thread earlier and did not press the Back Arrow enough times. But thank you kopcicle for your response. I have managed to track down a solution on Ebay. If it fails I will come back to you.

Oooooo. Less than 15 miles away, and free...
Inquiring now.
Looks to be a 16" out of the '20's . 274xx - 275xx will place it mid '20's
Generally a very good lathe. I lived with one for a short time. Tony doesn't dive into the old ones much but I did find a thread here.

As I remember the one I worked with had a few casting repairs that the shop said were a bit easier because it was cast steel rather than grey iron. Decades later I repaired a similar casting that was absolutely grey or nodular and required all the prep and preheat associated with cast. Conclusion? I have no idea :)

One thing I do remember is place no stress on the gearbox in reverse.

You know what these things weigh , right ?

Yeah, that may be an issue. I don't really have a feel for how big it is until I go look at it. I'm hoping he's at work or something as he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Still no word. So either:

1. It's gone,
2. He works odd hours, or
3. He's one of those jerks that posts stuff and then never responds to anything.
