Jim's 1980 SG Miss September

On a restoration, the devils in the details...
Not wanting to tackle a large job tonight (the frame jig), I decided to get into some of the detail work...

Paint on the badge is half gone, but overall it ain't bad.
I poured some black Centari in a small plastic cup and went into the utility room to clean the chrome up with a brillo pad...

Hmmm... Must be cheep ass made in China cups. Melted the bottom right out of it.
Scooped some of the paint into a large spoon (stainless) and went to work...

Overall, it turned out pretty good. I might put another coat on it tomorrow.

Back to the frame jig
Got a little bit done today. First off, had to drive over to Kansas to pick up a box of goodies I got from XS member Halfmile. He's a real nice guy by the way...

Anybody needs a speedo or tach, PM me.
Found these in one of the "boxes of stuff I never throw away." I think they came in one of the boxes the Atlas came in. Probably for a lay shaft or sumpin...

Wanted to mount them on 3/8 to 1/2" strap, but I didn't have any. So I did what any enterprising cheepskate would do... I made some.
IMG_20171111_190417.jpg
Cut 4 pieces of 3/16X1" strap and TIGed the ends... 2 3/8X1" straps. Drilled and tapped them for 1/4 28 bolts...
IMG_20171111_191947.jpg
And welded them to the posts on the jig...

I gotta say... for a 30something yr old wire machine, that Hobart still lays down a nice bead.
Painted it up and bolted the bushings on...

The main frame now has 3/4" floating brass bushings for the rotisserie frame to spin on. Cool!
The wife has to work tomorrow, so I hope to get the rotisserie frame done.

Dang Jim that rotisserie is going to be way too nice to do just one frame! You’re going to have to go into business!

Gonna use one or two of them. Clean up the rest and put em up for sale I suppose.... Why, you need one?

Oh I just was looking at all those chrome instrument buckets. There’s a forum member Time Machine who swapped out his black stock buckets with chrome ones and it looked pretty nice. Just thinking....

Frame Jig and Paint Rotisserie... Continued.
Last time I put something up here the jig looked like this...

Finally got time to tackle the rotisserie part of the frame jig today (I played hookie from school). Found some 3/4" solid round in my scrounge boxes. Cut off two pieces and turned a 45deg bevel on one side....

Forgot to take a pic, but I drilled through the verticals 3/4" on one side and 11/16" on the other. That way the rods centered in the holes. Welded the rods in place...

Jigged it all up and welded the verticals to the 3X3" horizontal tube...

Yay... I now have a rotisserie:)

Verticals are .3 degrees (that's point 3) off from each other radially. I can live with that. Think I'll add some gussets and I have to build a locking system... but I'm gettin there.

....and can't be blasted again because of the filler.
Not to mention the cost;)
It's fine Scott. I check it several times a day. Actually stays pretty dry out here in the garage. First sign of surface rust and I'll rattle can it till it's time for the real paint.:)
