Time For The Voltmeter.
Picked up the peanut gauge voltmeter awhile back and decided it was time to mount it. Not sure I'm happy with it... we'll see after the other gauges are mounted.
I started with all this stuff....
The sheet is 7075T6 stock (which is not weldable). The tube is also 7076. It's cut from a Boeing 727 nose door strut (scrap) I had laying around. Since I couldn't TIG the pieces together, I used a piece of oak dowel to epoxy and bolt the tube to the plate....
I'm glossing over the obvious here such as the hole and wires and grinding. After the epoxy set, I cut the plate to size and made a backup plate, drilled and countersunk for 3/32 AD rivets...
Clecoed everything together to make sure it all fit....
Happy with that, I took it all apart and commenced to buffin'. Once it was all shiny, I riveted it all together...
Hooked the wires up and epoxied the gauge into place. Once it set, I temporarily mounted it...
I'm not sure I'm happy with it. I think I'll hold judgement 'till I get the other gauges mounted. I was shootin' for inconspicuous... not sure I hit the mark. Guess I'll wait and see if it grows on me or not.
