When I lived in Nashville, Tennessee, I had a roommate who worked for a record label. He did a lot of the schlep work so one of his weekly tasks was to pick up concert posters from the print shop and hang them around town. Often times, posters advertised the artist and their latest release and left a blank spot at the bottom to write in promotional information, i.e. concert or event date, venue, and time (if you've ever lived in a big city or college town, you know what I'm talking about). My roommate also worked as a dishwasher at a busy cafe, so when he picked up hundreds of "blank" posters after a long shift at the cafe, he'd throw them in the trash in favor of getting some rest.
With all these extra flyers laying around our place, we'd occasionally draw on them with black markers when we were drunk or bored, filling in fake information about fictional events, musicians, and concert venues. Being fans of heavy metal, we'd color in corpse paint over the faces of these country music hopefuls, blending the elements of country and metal. We'd change names like "Kyle Park" to read "KVLT DARK". One such fictional venue to appear on a series of posters was the "Abysmal Tailgate," combining elements of good ole boy tailgates, and the dismal, occult... unfortunately, I can't spell and wrote "abyssmal" hahaha
