Just another first build.

Yo mang, I was wondering what happened to you. I guess you've been having too much fun to post. The bike look's great, I only hope I can do such work. I figured $1,000.00 would get me up and running and I was saving cash when I was approached with an offer I couldn't refuse. A 1942 Colt 1911 in 95% finish. I had to do it, for military firearms are what I live and breath..

never mind the bikes lets see a pic of the Colt :D

I used to collect them too before they were banned in the UK back in 1997
I had a nice early 1911 Commercial Colt 1911 which a 'gun specialist' managed to chew up in his vice when deactivating it :banghead::banghead:

yeah its true I'm afraid :(

Still mystifies me 16 years down the line.

What really added insult to injury was when the owner of this esteemed establishment offered to 'touch up' the blue if I returned the gun to him ! like it was just some A1 clunker .

Also had a 9mm Hi-Power Mk1 one of only 5000 special serial number batch that was sold to the British Secret Service back in the 50's :wink2: All matching numbers but it already had the bluing removed from the slide and some sports sights so I stuck some Pachs on it and used it as my practical pistol for UKPSA ,Police Pistol, FBI , Service Pistol and other stuff. It was amazingly accurate I could put the whole clip into under 2" at 25mts .

Sorry I've hyjacked this thread

Yo Peanut, never feel sorry when talking about firearms. I'm afraid to ask, but what the hell does deactivate mean, destroy? It doesn't sound good. What exactly happened in 1997 anyway? Complete gun confiscation? I can't even imagine somebody grabbing my shit and chopping it up. I would be one pissed off boy. I'll work on posting 1911 pic's but in the mean time maybe we can start a "Show me the guns" thread? Won't that be fun?

now you're talking CF :thumbsup::D

Deactivation means you pay someone to render your firearm non firing using grinders and drills etc then one of two Proof Houses in the UK (Birmingham and London) stamp the slide and receiver to prove the work has been done properly according to the current Home office guidelines. You then get a deactivation certificate you can show the Police to prove the firearm is no longer capable of firing and is a decorator.

If the work is done sensitively the firearm should still be strippable and dryfire.:(
At least you got to keep your favourite firearms rather than have them crushed.

Handguns were made Section 5 ( illegal to possess in the UK) in 1997 because of the Dunblane massacre.

We were given roughly $400 for each handgun despite rare collectors pieces being worth $1000 plus .They were all destined for the crusher. :(

Yo Peanut, how depressing was that? Just the opposite of the forties when the U.K. was requesting firearms from U.S. citizens to aid in defense of your homeland from Germany and gladly handing them out to British citizens. With ammo. I keep waiting for some kind of legislation from Washington stating some kind of bullshit like your Section 5. If it appears, I'm out of here, with guns in tow. On a lighter note the govenor of the state of Georgia just passed a bill legalizing firearms in public buildings like bars and schools and office buildings. The idea is guns everywhere = crime nowhere. Now you're talking. Captain Fun out.

the idiots in charge never learn .

All they managed to do was to remove firearms from all those citizens that had a legitimate legal Firearms license to own, collect and shoot pistols as a sport which left all the unknown guns in the hands of criminals and illegal immigrants who continued to shoot each other and everyone else in the community in pursuit of crime .!

So now we have 12 year old kids riding around on bicycles shooting the puplic !:yikes:
arghhh don't get me started on gun control !

Installed the new spacer I had made. Just under 2 mm longer. I'll post a pic later.

The inner spacer sits in the hub nice and snug now; and still the noise/clicking persists.

I'm totally baffled. I don't understand how this noise/clicking just came about randomly after 800 miles.

Peanut I checked the seal you mentioned earlier, it's the same width as the oem one. It doesn't look like that green one.

Anything in the brake hub I'm missing?

?
mine did exactly the same thing !:confused:

I never did find out what made the noise but I cleaned it all replaced the bearing dust covers and the brake shoes and the noise dissapeared???

Aloha RD, I just bumbled onto your thread. Great looking machine... Just throwing a shout out, to another XS650 rider in OC. I just finished a complete rebuild, resto-mod. I'm in San Juan Cap. Hope to see you on the roads. -George
