Just got a free xs650 with missing ignition, best option?

The reason i want to change the ignition system is that I did cut the wire from the pickup coil like a retard... and also the wires from the rotor that was way too coroded for me to use...and maybe some others... thinking that I will buy all this stuff new.

To me, PAMCO and PMA seems like and upgrade for reliability as I get rid of the originial charge system and mechanical advance, both seems to have bad reputation from what I've read.

what exactly did you read that gave you the impression that the original charging system wasn't reliable ?

There are many thousands of xs650 around the World that have run perfectly well on the original charging equipment for nearly 40 years .
Everything wears out eventually and needs maintenance or replacement but the original system is excellent.

By hacking the wiring out it sounds to me like you had already made the decision to replace it with an electronic system long before you asked our advice.
