kick start trouble

at first, when i saw the pic with the copper frame I was like-" whoa, ' then I thought that might look nicer with a black seat. The black seat would tone down the copper or maybe gold, I like the brighter color frames. black is so stock imo.
your project looks really good so far. just clean 'er up, 'n go!!
 
try kicking it like you would a big single bring it up to just past compression,you can feel this as you push the kickstart slowly, once you get just past compression,kick it pretty hard this will make it a lot easier to kick than just trying to kick it at any point in the engine cycle and normally lets the engine turn over a few more times.
I have a Norton commando that starts exactly with this method no problem.On the other hand my 75'XS650 (electric starter not working) has very little resistance once past compression and does not want to start.Any other part of the cycle it wants to kick back which can be violent!Can someone elaborate or have any advice on a better kicking technique ?
