Okay Daniel. I'm not in any mad rush. I have to have the forks off to replace the dust shields but I won't pull it apart until the weather prevents me riding it.
When double disking the 77 and up front end there is the option of using SR500 left side components. SR500 disks are 5mm thick instead of the XS 7mm. SR500 front brake parts are a simple bolt on mod.
If 5mm thick discs are used on both sides, the added weight of double disking is reduced. And, its relatively easy to find SR500 parts.
I've done this and do intend to do it again as well.

So do you have to change the right side calliper too, or are the calipers the same?
The calipers themselves are a match of opposites. The hangers of the SR500 do infact have a narrower "gap" and correlating pads shim/ clip. It has been said that does not matter on the XS caliper to use the 5mm disc. It is wise to start with thick good condition brake pads.
To find a very rare but best matching right side hanger such as I luckily did in a bin. A guy needs to source a hanger off of a XJ650RJ Seca or perhaps a XS360-400?
Either way I'll prob just use the XS right side hanger on the next XS.

Na, I'm $200 into a set now that needs cleaned up. Shipping to UK? Sounds expensive. Here is one on Ebay.

Yeah, that shipping cost is prohibitive too. I can buy a brand new caliper over here for £100, so that just doesn't stack up. Sadly there aren't any on UK eBay at the moment.
