Brassneck, thanks and yes. Tail cowl is cut from original tank. Seat pan is wood actually (easier to mold and will take staples). Shaped some foam and wrapped it up.

My '81 sidecar bike...minus the hack. Off the road for two years with minor electrical issues. Back in commision thanks to gggGarys "phone coaching" 48,000 miles strong...owned since '99. I've done several mods to her and she's been alot of fun for me and my family.

Nice work, I would have never guessed it was the tank.

Hi all,

a few pics of my xs. I put this one together as my camping bike. I go for week long trips a few times a year and like to camp as cheaply as I can so I set it up to hit the dirt roads up here in Canada. I do all my own work in my home shop and do everything on the cheap if I can. By no means am I claiming to be good at this and I don't think my bike is great but hell it gets me where I want to be and in the 2 months or so I've had it on the road Iv'e put about 7000kms/4350 miles on her. I'm still working out bugs (mostly my own mistakes) and have waay more plans in store this winter.

Cheers!

great lookin tracker. Sure is a load of miles in 2 months riding :yikes:
Would like to see some of your work on the bike and parts you used if you have any record. ........ oh and welcome !

Thanks Growl... I'm running the Heidenau K60 on the front and the Bridgestone Trailwing on the back. The heidenau is my tire of choice at this time but the Bridgestone was all I could find in a dual purpose for the 16" rim... I'm looking into converting to bigger wheels this winter.

Evenmorexs... yeah while it's certainly not as useful as a real dualsport bike it works pretty well for a 35yo street bike and I'm somewhere around $2000 into it including the bike and that's with a $1000 worth of Pamco.

Thank you Peanut... yup I try to ride every day and I've taken 2- 10 day trips where I ride every day to a new destination. I will post some pics of what I've done.

A little more detail about what I've attempted here...

Mechanically I did the Pamco ignition, e advance, and charging system. The oil filter cooler thingy. Yamaha xt500 shocks, progressive fork springs and emulators, seals bearings and such.

Cosmetically I'm using a Suzuki dr370 seat, Kawasaki 440ltd rear fender chopped and shortened, Kawasaki kz400 luggage rack modified, Suzuki gs 400 headlight, Honda xr75 sidecovers which I'm remaking in fiberglass along with a new front fender. home made sissy bar just to tie shit to when the rack is off, Tail light (after the chinese one I bought fell apart) made out of a chrome exhaust tip, dodge socket, and trailer light lens, Store bought mx bars, and a bunch of eyebolts cut down and welded to the frame for tie downs.

I still have lots to do though... Wheels, exhaust, custom harness and switches, carbs, finish my fiberglass parts, and some kinda kooky paintjob.

Welcome. Nice bike and it actually is being used for fun. I like what you have done with the rack. The seat looks great. Thanks for the information on your build and pictures. Like your work space. Good job. No shit.

I really like the way you've taken parts from other bikes and designed and fabricated exactly what you wanted . The seat, grab rail and luggage rack look great but also practical.
