The main fuse keeps blowing(twice). I figure I've lost ground somewhere on one of the handlebar switches. How and where can this happen and what is the procedure to test? Manuals are a little tricky to understand for using a multimeter. Any detailed instructions would be appreciated.

Do you have stock controls on/off/start switch? That switch gets its contact ground from the bars. Try wiring a separate ground for the switch.

a "lost" ground won't blow a fuse but a pinched or cut power wire at the switches will, check your switch mounts and wires going into headlight shell, the dark green turn signal wires look black (ground) in poor lighting, would be good to know what year machine, stock, chopped ect. wire thur bars or outside of them?

Welcome to the site.
When you put the controls back on you probably pinched a wire. Need to pull one side off, check to see if the fuse blows, if not you found which side is the problem.
Telling us what year and model your bike is and any mods done will help us help you. Putting this info in your signature works well. You won't have to write it out each post.

Getting a few circuit breakers from your local auto parts store is also more then worth it when doing diagnostics
