Hi, my XS is a 650E, made late '77 for year '78. I am not sure that drilling a very small hole in the other port or a clean out of the complete system brought it back from lunch. Just glad it's working and looking forward to better weather and more riding. Yes it does have two phillips screws and a steel disc holding it together.
