Most produced year model

Thought someone might know which XS650 year model had the most bikes produced.
I'm not sure but I think 1978 the year the specials came out was the biggest year for the 650. I read somewhere that in 1978 the XS650 Special and the Honda Rebel where the top two selling bikes of the year in the U.S.

Actually, the Honda Rebel CMX250 came out in 1985.
The CM185T was from 1978-1979, which was called the "Twinstar".
In '80-82 they made the CM200T "Twinstar" and '82-'84 was the CM250 "Custom". 1981, the one I have, was the first year for 12v and a CDI.

I have heard that the '78 XS was the most popular.

You're right it wasn't the Honda Rebel but the 1978 XS650 special was the top selling motorcycle in the U.S. in '78 . I bought a brand new '78 650 Special in the spring of '78 a rode the Hell out that bike it was a good bike . I also bought a brand new '72 XS2 650 in '72 I thought it was faster than the '78. Now I have a mint '81 650 Special with only 2,765 miles it had 1,340 when I bought it in July this year.
