Rec'd some mufflers for Christmas and finally got around to installing them. Problem is the bracket that the strap goes to is in the way and hits the frame, so they won't work.

Here is what they look like: http://www.mikesxs.net/parts/yamaha-xs650-muffler-taper-tip-universal.

Has anyone here replaced their stock mufflers with something else that worked well?

I still have the original pipes that were included in the sale of the motorcycle, the outside of the pipes look ok, but the insides are rusted with rust chips falling out.

Any suggestions?

Can you loosen your top bolts at the head and remove the bottom bolts and swing the pipe out a little? Do you have any friends with a workshop. It isn't too hard to adapt a muffler, just make sure you connect it to the inside part of the exhaust pipe.

I welded a strap on the back side of my muffler and bolted it to the stock mount
