So I couldn't leave it as I bought it too long..... I had to give it a little of my own style. So I had to build some mini apes, because Im a smaller guy. Sooo.....
Welcome, Sweet leafer! is that a custom built or off the self front end? I really dig the stance and the speedster bars.
Its a custom built front end

Here's the bars I built last weekend

Indian used a leafspring springer fork in the early years. There are companies out there that build recreations of them. Some are better than others.
They do give a bike a different look.
Burt Monroe had one on his Indian and took it down the course at Boniville at over 200 MPH. I guess they work.

Ya I dig the leaf springer, and they don't have much give, but its not bad for me, I'm only 140 lbs lol........ I CAN'T even imagine trying to run one at 200mph though , that's just nuts!

Swapped out the bag for a mahogany brown leather bag & added a handlebar bag as well...... thinking of changing up the exhaust so I can put the other bag on the other side........ opinions?........ I think it could interfear with the kickstarter, not 100% sure.

So decided to try to match the seat as close as I could to the bags. Thanks to Rub & Restore, and one good coat using a hair dryer to help the drying...... I think it came out pretty good!

Well Renegade Offroader! While I readily admit that that style of bike is not "my thang", it is an XS650 so welcome to XS650.com from Canada's sunny southern coast in Windsor, Ontario!

I do appreciate the work and craftsmanship that went into that bike (it really IS nicely built and the bag is superb IMO).

The rear suspension is.....well, I guess it really isn't (oh gawwd my achin' back). The front suspension is very interesting and there certainly is no fundamental reason why it shouldn't work OK - except that there is no damping in the front end (i.e. there is a spring, but no shock absorber).

Does it not pogo a fair bit when you hit a bump?

Pete

Thanks, and no it doesn't pogo much....... there really isn't much suspension whatsoever lol..... maybe and inch or 2 . It's pretty much just a bar hopper.... only has about 75mi range with the tank as well

The work and craftsmanship .. tip of the cap. Years ago I had a old school peanut tank on my Xs 650 " chopper ".. I lived in southern Oregon at the time.... and had to talk to farmers a few times.... out of gas.. one charged me $5.oo for a gallon... also I discovered farm dogs can get.... testy....
