My first ever bike build!!

Thanks for all the info and suggestions guys, I'll keep them in mind when I get to the frame.

Decided to start with my rocker cover. Its a bit mucky and one ofthe rockers is quite sticky so I think a good clean is in order!

So to get them out I did a bit of reading and used the search button:)eek::eek:),and found a "how to"!

First got me a 6mmx50mm bolt and nut...........

As I don't have a sliding hammer or 500 washers(!), I decided my adjustable wrench would do the trick for a spacer to screw on to. So, 6mm bolt with two nuts( after my first attempt I realised you only need one really!) goes through wrench and into the rocker arm pivot slug.........

Then I proceeded with my 6mm spanner, winding the slug ever closer to the end of the wrench until it locks up...........

(I can just hear the screams and NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO's now!!:D)
I then gently tapped the wrench with a hammer until the slug came out and the arm fell into my lap......

Tadaaa.........

Now the next task is to clean this sucker up good and put it all back together again and hopefully the arm won't be sticky anymore!

Pics up later.............

Doesn't look clean but I don't have dirty oily fingers now when I pick it up! PLUS the rocker that was sticky isn't anymore!!! Result methinks!

Didn't get a lot done this weekend, but I managed to clean off the gunk and oil off the head and lap my valves! Also took a brass wire wheel to the inside to clean off all the carbon build up. I was a bit weary at first, but soon I was making headway. A lot easier than I thought!

Not perfect, but clean and no carbon build up on the valves.

I ended up doing one at a time, was less stressful in putting the wrong ones in the wrong place!

On a side note, the seals seem to be OK. Should I leave them or replace? I don't have any new ones at the mo, but I could get some and replace them if need be, after all I now know how to!!:D

Yeah I know carbon, I'm just a lazy bastard! If I don't HAVE to do something, I won't!!:D

Should really do a proper job from the start, so I won't have to do it again!

Just want to get 'er done quickest possible so I can ride into the sunset!!

You wanna ride back right? I kid...

Seriously though, preventive maintenance keeps you from pushing. Then again... do what you can afford to now, find the money to afford what you have to later.

Hehe Shotgun! I have decided to redo the seals, they are on heir way! Got those fancy better-than-the-original ones off epay, not a bad price really. here's a link if anyone is interested

And for a bargain at that as well! It seemed like noone was bidding apart from me and another guy and he was slacking! Times like this I do love e-bay......:D

Going to need new spindle, bearings, a few spacers and some calipers, and.......the list goes on!!

So far I like it! Still in two minds wether to go brat or cafe-ish(not a big fan of the cafe look, but close to), but I'll take it as I go along with the build.

And so we carry on.............

Got me some new goodies! Well,....not new, ... but you know what I mean!:D

Starting to look the way I want it!! The spokes are rusty, and the rims are not great, but I intend to paint them anyway. I may do the stainless steel spoke swap later at some point.

IT's CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!

OK it's not a FANTASTIC, soft, silk scarf from the hills of ancient China, but it is a nice touch to the parcel. What is underneath I hear you ask??!!!:D

Well, lets have a look..............

If you had any doubts on this kit, don't anymore!! This is perfection! Worth every penny I can guarantee it.

I was going to change the cover on the seat(was going to take it apart for a pattern to cover the seat with a different colour!!) but it's WAYYY too nice to do now!! Maybe something OVER that so I can have it both ways!:D

All right Mate I like where Your taking this build.
Airwolfie, that little box of treats is cool, More than just a great seat but MCBK too! awesome!:thumbsup:.
How about a side view of that cool tail light?

It's so much fun when parts show up! Now you can get down to business Airwolfie.

Something is slightly out of wack here, should I be worried??? maybe bang it a bit into place? Or should I just leave it?

So what do you guys think? Stick with those bars or get some clip ons? I am in two minds about this. When they on the bike I like the look of them, but in photo's I'm not so sure!??

Comments and suggestions appreciated!!

That'll look great Airwolfie! Hey on your frame not lining up, take some measurements from the neck back to both shock mounts and see what you get.
If they are different then take some more farther down to track what's bent.
