My new build, "The 23"

Awesome work I'd love to be able to create such a unique thing. If I can say one thing though, and this is just my opinion of course so don't let it take anything away from how awesome your build it, to me the tank looks like it fell off its mount sitting down there and would flow a lot better if you raised it up and forward a tad. I know low is a great look and think that Willow does a great job with that and IMHO yours does too just that little bit out. Must be a hoot on the throttle though!!!

Got the registering done today. Blazing hot right now and I won't go for my ride until later when it cools off. :( But I also have a conundrum to work out. I've been posting pictures and commentary of this bike on another site that has to do with VWs. A lot of those guys are into motorcycles too.:) Anyway, one of the guys on that site is really after me to sell him my bike. I know he is a serious player and seen the work he has had done on two restorations through this VW shop/site. So I just finished a long PM to him essentially saying if he ponies up my price it's his. Half of me is wishing he jumps at it and the other half is hoping he backs away.:banghead::banghead::banghead:

woe Ben. I don't know how You could sell her
You are too nice a guy Man! I say smack Yourself on the forehead and splash some COLD water on your face. It's just the heat talking Ben , just the heat:wink2:

Good one Carbon. Right now it's just the heat, if money is offered, I don't know.:banghead:

Couldn't wait till evening, remembered I have class tonight. So took it for a spin in the heat. Boy! Sure glad I didn't put in a 5th gear over drive with this 23" rear wheel. It's running lean right now, so it would only cruise in 5th. Trying to accelerate required a down shift. I'm going to take the main and pilot up one size and try again.
The re-phase sure takes the handle bar vibration away. Very smooth feel now at 55-60ish. You do pick up some vibes through the seat of the pants that are not present on my regular 180 degree engine XS.

Yesterday's ride was very good, but I needed to down shift out of 5th to accelerate. So today I went up a size in both pilot jet and main jet. Took it for another ride today and boy what a difference. Runs ten times better and pulls through 5th gear with authority. Still doesn't need a 5th overdrive, plenty of room to run fast and keep the RPMs down.

Two weeks of riding under my belt. I just gotta say, this bike gets the attention. Last weekend one guy at a local stop/watering hole, wanted to buy it for a room divider in his new house. Another couldn't be convinced it's an '81 Yamaha. Wednesday I took it to a local bike night. It was a big hit. I spent the whole time answering all kinds of questions, didn't even get to sit down and have a beer or food. Had to ride home with out a tail light, so that got the attention of a cop. He was so impressed with my bike that he gave me a tail end escort all the way home and a fix it ticket.

This weekend I spent getting rid of the tank sealer. It was coming loose. So I drained the tank and used aircraft paint stripper to eat it out. Worked on that all day Saturday and managed to have it all back together for a ride today. This thing is a hoot to ride and is very smooth with the rephased engine. I'm loving it.:bike:

Thanks guys. Love to hear all the comments. Good for my ego.

Last weekend, I spent Saturday using paint stripper on the tank sealer because I had very poor adhesion in spots. Today I noticed I had a paint bubble forming on the side of the tank. To confirm my suspicions, I pushed a pin into it and got gas dribbles. So I guess I'm stripping the tank to fix some leaks. Any good advice on cleaning the tank real good for welding? This part is going to scare the crap out of me. I'm thinking clean it after draining the gas with a good industrial cleaner that is non-flammable, then holding a match on a long stick over the gas filler hole, while cowering behind a flak wall.

Little update on this build. I've been riding the piss out'ta it. Really a fun ride and gets attention where ever I go.

But today, a friend of mine from New Mexico is in town and he laid me down some stripes.

Oh yea, I forgot. Put a different tank on it too. Old one has a bunch of pin holes to fix.
