Hi all,
I just joined the forum.
I live in Paris, France and recently bought a XS.
It is an American one, as the label tells : "THIS VEHICLE CONFORMS TO THE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY" .
The tank is French Blue painted but the sides are black.
After a few (a lot in fact) researches on the web, I found it is a 1976 'C' that was not imported to Europe neither France.
So I decided to have it as near as the original.
First thing was to have the dents removed on the tank (the bike fell on the right side), and the sides painted.
I found the headlight casing on Ebay US, and had the headlight brackets in black not chrome from a french seller (it is much easier to repaint).
Here are a few pics. I get all that stuff next week end.
The painter refused to put the decals that can be found on the web, so he drawn the lines and letters !
I also decided to change the dashboard to the original one, because the one on my bike was the "USS Enterprise" one :)
The grey one on the last pic is my friend's one. It comes from the Netherlands, and is a 'D' one.
More to come.

Yes indeed!
He uses to work on classic bikes.
He has a FB account called RC Carrosserie if you want to have a look.
Thanks for your warm welcome.
Do you know if there are any other French even not blue, on this forum?

Hi AleX and welcome,
there are several Francophone regions in Canada but as each reckons that the others are debased regional dialects they all communicate in English

Welcome. Nice bike and beautiful paint work. It’s more the opposite around here where a paint shop wouldn’t want to paint the lines and letters or I wouldn’t tire be willing to pay the price to do it :)

Thanks Bosco, the decals do exist on Ebay for about € 100 including postage.
The painter told me he didn't want to use those decals for two reasons:
1/ he would not give a warranty for the job,

2/ he is applying varnish twice and sanding down between, and it would have destroyed the decals.

And the price 'all inclusive' is correct.

Does anyone here has an idea of the price I paid? (one of the brackets was bound, the tank had also to be reshaped).

Hi Alex,

First off, very nice bike!
I assume you paid for such a paint job around paris a minimum of approximately 500 euros.

Nice greetings and une bonne sante' from genoa

Christian

Alex,
You could also use the front fender of a sr500;)

500 is a huge deal around paris as already in northern italy they would ask a similar sum without receipt, and italy has way lower hourly rates than paris.
Alone the masking is a huge piece of work and very time consuming.
