We're a pretty tolerant bunch around here. As far as profanity? I'm a firm believer that profanity in the proper context enhances language, but I spent my formidable years in south Jersey and not everybody out there feels the same. It'd be interesting to see how many times the F bomb has been used on site by doing a word search......lol.

There's a feature on the forum where you can block and not see posts from selected members.

Doing a thread on a build is acceptable and there are many in here.
Post some pics up if you can, we love pics.

Personally, I occasionally use colourful language but I tend to adjust the f@cking spelling of the sh!tiest words to operate the effect.

Welcome JimD54, profanity used as an expression seems to be ok, as mentioned some use *&% or whatever i don't have a problem with it, personally I think the C word goes to far.

Been a couple of trolls but the locals usually sort them out by notifying the mods by using the report button. ............If you don't like an attitude, or feel a post, is not where you want the thread to go, or it's counter to what you are doing it is your choice to allow it or not. Refer to the rules there are only 2 and the rest are guidelines............1 Mod and the 1 admin are all that control the site permissions and in the 9 years and 25,000 members i think there have been about 5 people banned. Have to be a real nusince to get that far. Most things get sorted by helping the mods if there is something suspicious or a bad attitude.

That being said we aren't all that good at reading so pics really do help............

 

Get a feel for the place and where or how to find the information before starting a build thread.............your choice. "Tech menu".... under....."maintenance and general Trouble shooting" ........has a good new to you bike and what to do on a new to you bike, basic really and helps to get all your ducks in a ro

This is a mixed bunch of guys but generally friendly.
Like most populations, you will be treated similarly to the way you treat others.

I know i said show us some pics but did you have to show us that..............lol...........looks ok, might need a gear selector

80SG Factory Electronic ignition, (TCI), BS34 Carbs. ...........A couple of threads running at the moment with some problems with the TCI and fixes. Keep an eye out, and do a search on TCI. Good system but age can cause magnets to fade, easy fix, and the control unit, (under battery box), to have issues, Not often but it happens.

Don't strip it get it running and sort any issues it may have.............Charging and associated parts, although your bike will have a combined Solid State Reg/Rect.........ignition...........wiring............also easier to sort problems systematically now instead of putting it together after a tear down and not knowing what may have caused the problem or where it is............Carb problems can be attributed to electrical and vise versa

 

You might consider what many of us do, a resto-mod. Keep the bike mainly stock, just change a few items like the bars and seat to make it look and ride better. Fix and upgrade all the mechanical stuff. Fixes for many of this bike's short comings have been worked out by owners over the years and most all of it is documented here somewhere.
