i just purchased this 1980 xs650 and i rode it home about 10 miles.
it ran perfect!
only problem was that the petcock was leaking fuel. after replacing the fuel lines and taking the petcock apart and fixing what was wrong it was no longer leaking.
i start it and pull the choke all the way and it idles.
but this time the left exhaust sputters what appears to be dark gasoline.
it looks like it could be oil but it feels and smells like gasoline.

i pulled the left spark plug and it was also wet.
im a total newb with this bike.
idk whats wrong.
could the petcock be leaking gas to the vacuum line that goes to the carb holder?
i dont see why this happened. the bike was running fine.
also the bike leaked first through the airbox and that stopped but now it spits gas and wont run without the choke.
sorry if this is in the wrong section

Sounds like you need to clean the enricher circuit and adjust the float levels. You might have some dirt plugging the circuit. The carb guide explains the procedure. An in line fuel filter is a good way to keep dirt out of the carbs.
