Hi guys,
I'm new here so I think I should introduce myself first :)
Im Jerome, living in Belgium and just bought a '79 XS650 witch was torn apart completely. A former project wich hasn't been terminated.

I'm trying to revive it first as it has been sitting for a while. the complete wiring has been removed So I've started from scratch.

It has an hitachi TID12-03 electrical ignition with rectifier/regulator and battery.

When we crank it we see some tension from the alternator so that's allright.
We used following diagram:

Do you Guys have some troubleshooting advice please?

The repair manual has a troubleshooting guide for the ignition. Most of it is testing the external parts, the TCI box itself has no test procedure outside of swapping in a known good one.
Buying a used one is kind of a crap shoot. You may get a good one maybe not.
There are a few things you can check on the circuit board inside. Look for poor solder joints, burnt components. There are threads about repairing the TCI box.
That diagram should work fine. Have you tested the coil? procedure is in your repair manual.

Thanks for the reply :)

Do have a link to this repair manual?
Maybe I should get a full new ignition kit. Which on is good and rules out all the original parts? I have practically nothing under the ignition point caps.
