Oil change

Hiya,
Recently purchased an 81 xs650. Topped up oil with 10/40 motul oil and it spung a few leaks.
Since read this forum.
Did an oil change for Castrol 20/50 oil. Great no oil leaks but has now an annoying top end whine. From idle thru upper Rev range.
It doesn't sound good.
Any advise appreciated.

Check your cam chain tension. engine cold, plugs out, on wires and grounded, electric starter, 1mm in and out movement of the plunger. Zero movement is a bad thing.

Thanks for that but I wonder why it changed with a different grade oil.

Have you opened and cleaned both filters checked the sump filter for tears?
Maybe some valve noise is now damped by heavier oil and you notice the whine more easily?
Check valve lash also .30" and .06" generally accepted values for all years.
