The new PAMCO E-Ignition, an integrated basic PAMCO and E-Advancer is now on sale for $149.95 with the rotor or $124.95 without the rotor (use your existing 60 degree rotor). This ignition incorporates all of the features of the PAMCO XS650 ignitions over the past ten years. The original price was $189.95 with the rotor, so this offer is a real savings for the latest PAMCO ignition.

I looked at your site but am still not 100% sure what kit I would buy if I have a 1979 with points and a PMA. Can you add some color there?

Thinking of taking advantage of this as it appears my pamco has crapped out. Pete, is there a minimum collector current required for the IGBT? I assume the IGBT is open collector, emitter to ground so I've pulled up the collector with a resistor and led (about 20ma), spinning the rotor and no flash so I'm guessing the IGBT is shot? If I get time tonight I'll check to see if the gate is toggling. The black marks on the rotor are the position of the magnets. I assume this is a 60 deg. rotor? Thanks.

Results of further testing. Bench testing reveals the electronics work as they should albeit with a permanent magnet. One pole latches the Hall effect device on, driving the gate of the IGBT, led turn on. Other pole of the magnet latches Hall effect device off, led off. Yet the magnets in the rotor all seem to be of similar polarity. Can that be? If I use the permanent magnet to turn the led off, any one of the 4 magnets in the rotor will turn the led on. None of the magnets will turn the led off again. I thought the rotor magnets would be of alternating polarity. What am I missing here?

You are correct. The magnets should be of opposite polarity with the first one turning the IGBT on and the second one turning it off. Did you perhaps test the magnets with a strong magnet? If so, that could have either demagnetized one of the magnets or reversed its polarity. In any event, I can send you a new rotor with fresh magnets if you PM your address to me.

So it seems the $149.95 option is definitely what I need. What I still can't figure out is ... does the shaft get re-used. Are the old points a problem? Did it have to be a CDI bike? etc.

The advance shaft does get reused. Old points are tossed in the garbage. A CDI bike never existed. The factory electronic system was a TCI (Transistor Controlled Ignition) but it doesn't matter except for the dual output coil from the TCI that ca be reused, otherwise you do have to source a dual output coil. The mechanical advancer is also tossed and replaced by the E-Advancer function of the E-Ignition.

Pete I have a 60 degree rotor and an advance rod. Does the 124.95 option come with the bushing to take the place of the mechanical advance?

OK, that answers my question. The "one-fiddy" option and a dual output coil. Thanks.

The $124.95 version comes with an aluminum "cap" that takes the place of the mechanical advancer. If you have a pre 1980 model, you should already have the brass bushings in the engine.
