prawns are really really cheap at the moment as a lot not being going o/seas so with no visitors ...garlic prawns with no limit on the garlic are the go .. yum yum , with the garlic so strong might even kill off the virus let alone the next door neighbors

The lobsters are also a lot cheaper. Restaurants are not buying and they are not being shipped overseas.

lobsters went down a bit here at first but not for long , most of the boats just stopped going out and saved their quoter , here in nth qld its stupidity , we have whats called the painted cray that is a tropical cray, they start walking nth and school up as they head nth to breed , from just below cairns in nth qld they start walking and go up around the tip of png and breed in their millions . we use to be able to fish for them.. then it was could keep them as incirdental catch (ie. what you caught accidentally in your prawn nets) then not allowed to keep any .. just to keep png happy as their gov said they needed the money, mean while all the illegal fishing boats flog the schools in png waters , the incirdental catch would have been only a drop in the bucket , even going diving for them your only allowed a couple a day for your own consumption

Its interesting to hear you use the term "prawn". Its a simple cultural difference, of course, as we use the term shrimp here.

However, for me the term prawn harkens a particular image from one of my favorite sci-fi films:

For those who haven't seen District 9, the Prawns were actually the sympathetic characters, the protagonists.

"...Don't shake your FO**NG antenna at me!..." (Charlto Copley's character. I loved that movie. Where the hell was the sequel?!!)

I think prawn and shrimp are two distinct critters. I ate a LOT of prawn in the Philippines. Humungous buggers, half a dozen of them was a meal. Unless, like me, you're a glutton...

Only shrimp I ever ate that came close, size-wise, was in Norfolk, VA. There was a bar there (shocking, I know...) that would serve a heaping platter of steamed shrimp for something like $1.75 back in 1970. Pigged out there on a regular basis.

They stopped harvesting lobsters and I haven't seen them by me. All they have are frozen tails. I remember a charter boat captain who took a party out and couldn't find them fish, so he stopped at a lobster pot, pulled it up, took out a lobster for his fares and gave it to them, then put a bottle of scotch back in the pot and sent it to the bottom.

Bara brith. I use this recipe and double up on the mixed spice. Current bake also includes 50g chopped walnuts.
Slice, spread with butter, enjoy .....

Now would be a good time to make a Depression Cake, just google it. Bara Brith uses black tea, I see. My mom's recipe for Depression Cake had coffee in it. It was good for hard times as it used no milk, butter or eggs when these items were hard to come by.

Root Beer? Do I spy A & W Root Beer??
I once knew someone in New Zealand who worked at the US Naval Antarctic Support Unit in Christchurch where all the flights to the Antarctic left from. He would sometimes sneak me out a 6 Pack of Mug Root Beer - I loved the stuff! I can clearly remember returning to Dunedin from a visit to Christchurch and pulling over by Waimate on my XS1B and drinking two cans. Also available was Hire's concentrate that you mixed up and then added loads of dry-ice to make it fizzy.

Looks like bachelor food; a spaghetti sandwich, Chinese pizza, or a Cheese Doodle omlette, whatever's in the fridge, and or, on top of it.
