I was curious if the Pamco ignition is necessary if I'm installing a Hugh's Hand Built PMA. '78 XS650 hardtail chopper project that's going to be kick only on a 1.3ah 12V battery instead of a capacitor. Anyone know? Thanks amigos.

If you have points no. 78 should have the points. If you have the newer ignition it has to be reverted to points or have something like a pamco installed.

Hi muskellunge,
you can run points just like with the stock alternator. The real question is why you'd switch to a PMA?

What Fred is saying is that the stock electrics will work just fine with a small battery kick only.
