Something to think about when you are cussing the part you got in the mail.

Having acquired an earlier tank (cap flips to the front) without petcocks.
I started searching my options. A look at the parts schematics were reassuring.

With the exception of maybe the '73 TX650 (which subbed to the same number)
it looked like I wouldn't have a problem. I have a TX750 tank with nice petcocks in the barn.
I put this to the back burner for a while. A couple of weeks ago I got interested again.
Cleaned the grease/oil/dirt from the old tank, gave it a light sanding, rattle canned it several times, drying under a heat lamp in between.
Made a blank for the one side I won't be using. Retrieved the 750 tank and removed the petcock. Something wasn't looking right but I didn't snap till I tried putting it on.
It is to short! The flange on the 650 is 3/8's higher. The bottom is also narrower!
It had be awhile so I checked the numbers again, yep according to the numbers it SHOULD be good to go.

So the I lesson have to remember. Part numbers found today are for OEM replacements not neccesarily the OEM part.
And if buying from an individual they may not know the difference.
If I had looked at the part numbers and bought the same 750 petcock from e-bay that makes the seller and e-bay bad bad people, when it doesn't fit, right?

Live, learn and have alittle fun.
