Just acquired a 1981 XS 650 and I am in the process of getting it running.
In changing the oil which I believe is at least 20 years old I discover obtaining the necessary gaskets is somewhat difficult. Is Mike's the "go to" supplier for parts and accessories for the Yamaha 650"s? Any other good outlets? I found one in Canada but they only ship within their country.

Yes, Mike's is about the biggest supplier. Some of their products are fine, like these gaskets you need, others not so much. Best you check here about anything you're considering buying to get some info on it. I will warn you to steer clear of their repro rubber bits. You can also check genuine parts, at least for reference purposes. Lots of stuff is still available from Yamaha. Here's a good site to use .....

Then there's always eBay. You can often find good deals on gaskets there. If you plan on keeping the bike, you might consider a full engine gasket set. Eventually, you will use most everything in it, and it's cheaper to buy as a complete kit than individual gaskets.

Some of them are easy to cut from gasket paper from Autozone, the thinner ones like that one, the sump cover, starter gears cover. That's how I do those. Get a sharp x-acto knife with a point while you're downtown... Use the cover, etc., as a template for the gasket by just cutting around it.

Most of the gaskets related to an oil change are shown on the oil pump parts diagram, but the gaskest for that round cover on the right side case is not. It's on the right cover diagram .....

But like I said, use these as a reference because the gaskets are very expensive from Yamaha. Using those diagrams like that, here's over $60 worth of gaskets for $13.50 .....
