I recently bought a new tail bag to replace my aging Nelson Riggs tail bag. I really like my motorcycles to be real world useful, a luggage rack and some sort of luggage to go on top of it suits my style. After looking at very many options online , I settled on this. It had the advantage of already being known to me and recommended by Robin, who recently purchased one for his ‘77 calendar bike. He was very happy with his, so that’s good enough for me.
The bag comes well packed and folded flat when you receive it. It also includes a rain cover for it.

There are two good sized pockets on either side.

The bag is expandable by unzipping a zipper that goes all around the bottom. This allows the bag to gain another 2 1/2” in height. It has attached bungee cords with large plastic hooks to secure it, the hooks can be stowed in a Velcro enclosed compartment for when it’s off the bike. It also has a nice sturdy carrying handle for taking it off the bike.

The material is a very heavy ( I believe Cordura Nylon ) and it takes a little work to get the bag to hold its shape nice. What I did was stuff the main compartment with three big bath towels and the side compartments with hand towels so that it stretches the bag, then I spray it with a water bottle and get the whole thing wet. Then using my hands I pull the seams straight and stretch out any wrinkles then set it in the sun to dry, which doesn’t take long because it’s Nylon. Since the bag has no internal stiffeners this will really help shape the bag. Here it is with the towels inside, drying in the sun.

And here it is the next day, all dry , no towels inside and mounted on my luggage rack.

Just for reference, I’m going to put this stuff in the bag, an iPad two pairs of gloves, a fleece neck warmer and a baseball hat. Plenty of room without expanding the bag, room left over, nothing in the side pockets.

The bag is available on eBay for as little as $60 and free shipping. But watch your prices, it goes for as much as $90 elsewhere.

I think I’m going to like this bag. And I hope some of you found this useful.
Later,
Bob

Thanks Jim! Yeah I think so too. Also I mentioned this on my 60th birthday thread, but Rapid Transit also sells soft saddlebags that go with this.

Yup, I ordered one of those Platoon tailbags too. My old MotoCentric bag (which I also really like) blew a zipper a short while ago and my repair attempt failed.

Hope it’s here before spring (we’ve got a postal strike on right now).
