I searched but came up short. I'm looking for some info. Is there a difference in width between a rear disc swingarm and rear drum swingarm? I'm getting a distance between axle plates without tensioners of 8.5" on a drum swingarm. Same on a disc?

Swing arm from 74-79 was the same.........swing arm was changed in 80............... 74-79 had blocks at the rear of the axle hole so the axle and rear wheel could be removed as one piece, without taking the muffler off..........80-84 specials, the axle hole was solid............. Axle had to be removed to get the wheel out. mufflers were shorter for this reason, or the other way round

Yes, width between axle plates should be the same. The difference between the 2 swingarm types is just in the mounting points for the brake torque arms. The drum style has the mount on the bottom, the disc style on top.

The change in axle slot style that Skull mentioned doesn't affect the width.
