G'day,

How the Daffy Duck do I re-torque the head bolts below the spark plugs??

Please do not tell me that I have to remove the points and advance housings!!

Yours in frustration,

GeeDub

Use a socket set universal coupling. They swivel like the universal joint in a car driveshaft. Socket on bolt then universal then extension.

Put a 12mm regular 3/8" drive socket on the bolt head, then put a smaller head type 3/8" breaker bar (Craftsman works) on socket. I just use the arm strain gauge for torque setting.

I use a wobble extension. No need to remove the points and advance housings but you will want to take their covers off .....

Lots of ways to skin that cat. A couple more:
1. Make a drive adapter by bending two right angles in a piece of 1/4" square bar stock. Use a 1/4" socket, and reduce the torque setting in straight proportion to the length added by the adapter.
2. Bend a right angle at the end of a piece of square bar stock, cut a groove 12" from the bend, attach a 1/4" drive socket, hook a fisherman's spring scale in the groove, and pull at a right angle to get a torque reading.
