Good morning everybody! I am at the crossroads with my first bike. I am looking to push the majority of the budget I have towards the heart of the bike, the motor. Does anyone happen to have any good recommedations or experience with having a motor rebuilt in Southern or Central California? I live in Long Beach, but more than happy to travel to the right guy.

Any advice is welcome! Thank you

Haven't forgotten about you George, just got the engine back last week. Taking time to get it cleaned up since it's out and accessible. Should be installing it soon, will let you know how it runs if you're still interested.

Thanks Uncle! Yes definitely still interested. I'm with a shop down here getting my bike into running shape, but not a full rebuild. That will be the next phase... But definitely interested in your report... Thanks again.

Why not just buy a good rebuilt motor if you don't have a shop that can handle it. I know DAN ...DIRTY DOG has a fresh rephrased motor that would be a good get. Done motor.
I am on the east coast and I rebuild and sell motors so you want to make sure whoever does it the cases are split and all new seals are replaced. Trans inspected and new clutch so bottom end is done . Plus new cam chain and guides. Top end rebuild would be new pistons and rings plus bore. Valves removed and cut with new springs. All new gaskets and if cam in speck you are good to go. You are dealing with a 30 year old motor if never touched so its the best to do it correct.
Good luck on your build

Thanks DADDYGCYCLES, youre hinting at exactly what I am looking for. I am waiting to see what happens with the original motor in the bike now, and how she rides. Ideally I am looking for a motor that's done right, as you mention, that i could drop in. Or if the current motor ends up being a decent runner, a second motor that I could embark on the great learning experience that would be a full rebuild.

Is the motor you mention from Dan in classifides?

This forum has been great, including your last post on what a rebuild really entails. The hardest part is finding a trustworty mechanic that is willing and able! I need to get my DIY chops up no doubt. Thanks again!

Thanks DG, was able to touch base with Dirty. Fair price on a fully rebuilt motor, which is the eventual goal... Just not sure how I want to get there. Thanks for your help!
