    sonnysboy2 enjoying the ride!

builder- my reply was a little confusing..I meant to say that the website you turned me on to had better prices than what I was looking at and I liked the overall look of Shorai much better. I'll be back in my garage on Saturday and get my shopping list ready.
    thnx again! Sonny

Sonny just make sure that you get the right battery

  3. Okay I know this has been rehashed a million times but I wanted to put my two cents in. This diagram will help for those that are in need of a neutral light and horn for inspection purposes. I also like to have a high beam indicator but the light On/Off is not used on my system. The 7th wire on the igniter unit is a safety wire and can be capped similar to the yellow wire from the alternator. If you run a 6 wire igniter unit then you will not have to worry about it!!! YAY. I perfer the use of many fuses to separate the cuircuts but less can be used if desired.

This system is kick only and uses all stock charging devices and ignition systems. if you s gurus see an issuee let me know.

    Best of luck all.

Pamcopete might come along and suggest that your battery to R/R connection is not correct. However you have it the way it was designed from the factory and many other motorcycles are the same way. Splitting the circuits is a good things as well provided you keep the fuse box in good condition.

My only other comment is about your grounding; it is somewhat vague. It appears as if you are using the frame and engine for all current return paths.

Excellent reason to link DaddyG's 'grounding' thread:

  6. In the past I have run many grounds directly to the frame and have done it to the battery as well on different applications. On the last few rides I havent had to much trouble either way in terms of charging or blowing fuses. Weel thats not totally true, when I used a momentary switch I was running 20 amp fuses on a 30 amp ignition switch but that has since been tossed for a kick only application on the hardtail. I am very fond of my multimeter during the wiring process though so everything so far has come out well.

And ya I liked DaddyGs ground thread and it is a good call out twomanyxs1bs!!!
    thanks

Hey guys. Just picked up a 77 xs650. Converting to a tc bros hard tail. I'm after a clean look. No idea what is a must in the wiring and what can be eliminated. Any advice.

I'm assuming your running just the basics, headlight, brake light and key. This is the right direction.

Thanks, yes I'm after a clean basic look very simple! Should I get a new rectifier and regulator? I know I need the nylon screws.

I don't see the need if the one you have works.

Does anybody have a simplified wiring diagram for a 72 xs? I have my manual but I am not sure what wires I can complete be rid of....the only thing I have running on my bike is head light tail light brake light...I wanna make my bike as stripped down as possible...and my bike is kick only so no need for the starter...any help would be appreciated

  19. All you need to do is strip out your wires for your Alternator Reg and REC and you are half way done. Your bike if its stock has separate REC and REG.
You can use this diagram ..
I also sell wire kits that give you lights front and back Brake Switch Horn and wire for Coil
    They sell for $55.00 shipped
