Sorry to bring up a Subject which has been covered many times, I have done some extensive research on the internet and This site, Including heiden tuning, 650 central, and various other places looking for information on using a spin on oil filter on the side clutch case ( not the sump oil filter ).

There is lots of information where to buy kits etc... But i havent seen anything on how to DIY, Id be interested in doing this, I will strip my clutch case down over the weekend and see exactly what needs to be done,

Read something about drilling 2 holes.. But has anyone actually done a DIY spin on oiil filter on the side, without forking out for a kit, Id rather do it myself and any Information on exactly what needs to be done would be Very helpful

Appreciate any help anyone can give me please, As i said i read all the posts on here regarding Spin on filters but never came across one that was a DIY job without purchasing a kit

Thanks

Scroll down a little to the spin on filter kit. This is the kit I used. You get an adapter that you bolt into the bottom of the oil screen cavity that accepts the spin on filter. You have to drill two holes for the two bolts that hold the adapter on.
The whole development process of creating the adapter is spelled out somewhere -- I think I saw it in a thread on the XS650 Garage:

Wherever it is that I saw it, it included detailed, dimensioned orthographic projections of the adapter. If you could find those mechanical drawings you'd be home free. Maybe ask at the XS650 Garage board?
