SR400 18" front wheels look like a very tempting and possibly a bolt on mod.
Has anyone looked into this ?
The axle diameter is supposedly the same. Yamaha often used like dimensions on features such as brake rotor offset.
Any research known may just be of help to more than myself.
Thanks, RT

See where I'm trying to go with this ? 18" & 16" combo for the 79 Cafe project...
:umm:

The original SR500 ('78-'81) front wheel was a direct swap, basically the same wheel as used on the 650. I can't say that about an SR400 wheel. Axle size is probably good but I think the big issue could be disc mount and offset.

Yes, that is the question for sure. The seller advertised the wheel to be a direct bolt on for a SR500 cast wheel replacement however anyone can see that a SR500 has left side disc and a SR400 has a right side disc. I know by trial on my own XS650 that a SR500 left disc and caliper is a bolt on.
The SR500 forum is providing little help on this.
I'll probably have to go to the seller armed with parts and measuring tools
:D

The SR400 disc looks flat with no offset. You might need that disc. But then the question arises ..... will the disc diameter match, along with the width of the area swept by the pads. Might be easier and cheaper just to lace an 18" rim to a 650 front hub. I'm pretty sure Mike's sells spoke sets to do that.
