Stator cleaning

Hi, just been checking electrically my rotor and stator and whilst they look shocking the reading are all good. the rotor has 5 ohms between the slip rings and the stator 0.6 ohms between the white wires. My question is, how is it best to clean up the stator as there is rust and general corrosion as it stood open to the environment for many years in the USA before being imported to good old blighty. photo attached

No heavy cleaners or scrubbing on the wires.
Spray on Stoddard solvent and blow off with compressed air?
A scrubby on the metal faces.

I don't think I'd be adverse to spraying and/or wiping with WD40 either.
