is there an affordable way to go about getting my steering lock operational again? all I know about it (other than, that I dont have a key) is that it has a three digit number stamped on the cylinder....

The locks were matched on later models but I'm not sure about the earlier ones. Does the number match the one on the ignition switch?

I'm using the ign switch from a donor, but even so, the steering lock and ign key slots look too different to have been the same (judging from how they look)...

Would a lock smith shop need to see the cylinder to be able to make one from the numbers or literally just need the three digit number?

Well I just take the numbers to the one I use. You might try calling a local to see what they need.

I'll have to try it and see. I only have one iggy key, so I have to find a locksmith and try to have another one of those cut.
