I use an extra XS gas tank. Or a small 3 gallon red plastic tank used for small boats.

on my old ninja i used to have.
I used a 20oz coke bottle. I just drilled a hole and treaded a nipple in and added some jb weld.

I have a tank off an old push mower, just bunji it to top frame tube. I have easy access to my carbs, but I have to remember I only have a few miles of gas. Found out them hard way.

I just set the gas tank on a couple of high stools next to the bike and use a 3' length of fuel hose back to the carbs.

Be careful using unapproved plastic containers because they may dissolve in gasoline, especially gasoline with ethanol in it. Now, before you say you have not had a problem, it's possible for the gas to dissolve just some of the plastic on the inside of the container and this dissolved plastic can then get in the carbs and gum up the jets and small passages.

    That's exactly what I do.

+1. The plastic is designed for gas, it already has a spigot and capped hole.

+3 Push mower tank with an inline shut off. I use it often enough that I welded up brackets to fit the XS650 frame so it stays put for around the block road tests and tuning tasks. I really like that it eliminates variables (tank rust, old gas remains, sketchy petcock action, clogged cap vent etc.) for troubleshooting.

Damn you, now there's something else I have to make for myself. Oh well, I need to practice my welding and brazing anyway. I say brazing because I'm sure my welding will leave holes in the lawnmower tank.

I currently use a plastic gas can with a nipple in the bottom, a fuel filter and a cheap lawnmower petcock connected with clear line. But I don't use clear line on my bikes-- just on the test tank.

My lawnmower tank is plastic and my fancy bracket isn't fancy in the least, but it has stayed on the bike during test runs, so far..........

Gary, I'd like to see some pics of that set-up. I have the plastic lawn mower tank, had it for years, could just never figure out how to mount or suspend it.

I have an old argon tank off my mig welder I built but have yet to use, The tank was out of certification so I upgraded to a bigger tank. Plan is to hang it above the bike table somehow. I'll take a pic when it is finished.

Here's my XS tank on the table with a long fuel line to my CB350.
This is how I sync and work on all my carbs. I can reach the sync screw better and have total ease of reach around the bike while running.

The plastic test tank/bracket, front "ears" were cut off a rusted out tank.

The 79 fired and ran a few minutes ago. The mufflers blew mice nests out about 20 feet. NO SMOKE. It had been a long time since it last ran. Only 10K on the clock.

Go to advanced and they have a universal coolant over flow bottle kit. Works great and is cheap

I do something similar. I put a threaded nipple in the cap of a gatorade bottle. Fill the bottle screw on the cap and after you invert it poke a hole in the bottom for a vent. When your done throw out the bottle and keep the cap. My wife says it looks like I have an IV bottle hooked up to the bike. lol
