You were close (in the western scale of things).....
Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument (3,000 square miles, larger than the state of Delaware). Spectacular with comparatively few people and rules.

As with everything in the United Kingdom its not very far from North Antrim to the Isle of Man
The Picture of the Giants Causeway does not really show you how beautiful the place is.
The road it is on is the North Antrim coast rd, and if you are ever lucky enough to get there hire a bike and ride it, that is the coast rd do not hire a trails bike and ride the causeway as the National Trust will have your guts for garters.
Nearby is the home of the Bushmills distillery making the best Whiskey in the world a must if you ever get there.
Please Wikipedia the Giants Causeway and read the legend behind the place as it is a good story of 2 Giants
So as the Locals of Antrim would say "God Save the Queen and Ulster"
