I've torn apart the cases and sent my crank/cam off to hugh for a rephase and got the news that the connecting rods were crap and needed replaced. Now i'm looking at the transmission gears and am wondering the same about them. The connecting rods had moisture damage and i'm wondering if the transmission has suffered some of that fate too.

The bearing in the picture rotates, but it stops shortly after being rotated. Is there some type of way that it can be remedied or should i bite the bullet and replace the bearing. The transmission gears are rusted as well, I assume that it will just brush right off but again this is the first time I've done anything like this and would just like a second input.

I'm also wondering if I have lost one of my circlips. On my Manual it only has it listed as 1 being there but its got grooves on the top and bottom case as if two should be there. If i have lost one, where could i get one?

Oh, man, rust and gritty bearings isn't good news.

One approach here would be to completely disassemble the tranny and dip the parts in one of the forum's recomended rust removers, followed by meticulous inspection, looking for all the little subtle things that are nearly impossible to describe within a forum format. Would also replace all bearings.

The other approach would be to get a good used tranny, like DADDYG's offering:

Here's a thread on that retainer clip:
